چکیده

Background Right ventricular function is of prognostic importance in a variety of clinical settings but its complex anatomic geometry can pose a challenge to 2-dimensional imaging modalities. Right ventricular dysfunction is thought to occur following cardiac surgery and independently predicts adverse outcomes. However a clear mechanism for this dysfunction remains undefined. We sought o accurately assess the effect of SAVR upon right ventricular function in patients treated for severe symptomatic aortic stenosis.

Self-Expanding Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement Versus Surgical Valve Replacement in Patients at High Risk for Surgery: A Study of Echocardiographic Change and Risk Prediction.

BACKGROUND The CoreValve US High-Risk Clinical Study compared clinical outcomes and serial echocardiographic findings in patients with severe aortic valve stenosis after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) with a self-expanding bioprosthesis or surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR). METHODS AND RESULTS Eligible patients were randomly assigned 1:1 to TAVR with a self-expanding bio...

Self-Expanding Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement Versus Surgical Valve Replacement in Patients at High Risk for Surgery

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) has emerged as an alternative to surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) in patients with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis at extreme or high surgical risk. We have previously reported that TAVR with a self-expanding aortic valve bioprosthesis in patients at increased risk for surgery was associated with better 1-year and 2-year survival compared...

Impact of transcatheter aortic valve implantation or surgical aortic valve replacement on right ventricular function.

OBJECTIVE Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has become an alternative to surgical aortic valve replacement (sAVR) in selected high risk patients. While improvement in left ventricular function after TAVI has been demonstrated, little is known about the impact on right ventricular (RV) function. Since postoperative RV dysfunction is linked to adverse outcomes, the authors sought to ...

Differences in recovery of left and right ventricular function following aortic valve interventions: a longitudinal echocardiographic study in patients undergoing surgical, transapical or transfemoral aortic valve implantation.

OBJECTIVES To evaluate longitudinal left and right ventricular function (LVF and RVF) after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) as compared to surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) and LVF and RVF after TAVI by the transfemoral (TF) or transapical (TA) approach. BACKGROUND Knowledge about differences in recovery of LVF and RVF after TAVI and SAVR is scarce. METHODS Sixty patie...

Left and right ventricular function in aortic stenosis patients 8 weeks post-transcatheter aortic valve implantation or surgical aortic valve replacement.

AIMS Knowledge of longitudinal left and right ventricular (LV and RV) function after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is scarce. We hypothesized that the longitudinal systolic biventricular function in aortic stenosis (AS) patients is affected differently by TAVI and surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR). METHODS AND RESULTS Thirty-three AS patients (all-TAVI group, age 81 ± ...
